Arsenal are already back on the grass and preparing for the new season, with the exception of the Copa América and Euro 2024 stars. Mikel Arteta will have around six weeks to get his men up to speed, both in terms of fitness and with match rhythm.
The Gunners will also want to add new names to their squad as they look to catch Manchester City, but exits will be required if the club are to balance the books and stay within financial regulations. As that work continues, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Biereth talks continue
SK Sturm Graz director Andreas Schicker has been speaking about his negotiations with Arsenal over a permanent deal for Mike Biereth after the youngster’s solid loan spell with the club last season. He told Fan.at: “Mika is an absolute professional striker for our system, with power, depth and an enormous goal threat.
“We have never made a secret of the fact that we wanted to see Mika continue in Graz after his outstanding performances in the spring. We are therefore extremely happy that we have now been able to implement this venture. In addition to the very good discussions with Arsenal, Mika’s very clear commitment to SK Sturm was crucial. We are extremely happy that he does not see his job at Sturm as over yet and that we will continue to see him in the Sturm jersey.”
Rio Ferdinand has been speaking about Arda Guler, who was recently linked with a move to Arsenal amid impressive displays at Euro 2024 with Türkiye. “I liken him more to maybe a Modric type, when Modric was younger, and then he could develop because he is just as good at getting the ball off the centre-back deep like a six as he is getting the ball in the No.10 area – as you saw in the game where he banged in a goal,” said the United legend.
“That’s all just down to being press resistant as well, but his left foot man, he even sometimes looks a little bit like Phil Foden. It just depends where you catch him on the pitch, but he can take the ball anywhere on that pitch and come out the other end of it. He’s just a little magician, a little magician, and he’s another one who is going to be around for years.”
