There’s been a lot of talk around Dani Olmo in recent weeks, with Barcelona struggling to register the midfielder.
As it stands, the Catalan club still haven’t received the go-ahead, though they’re reportedly set to be granted a temporary measure to register the player while they appeal the ruling denying his registration.
At best, that temporary measure will last three months, while the Higher Sports Council study the case and reach a verdict.
If Barcelona’s appeal fails, they’d then be back to square one, and Olmo would be unavailable for selection again.
Various clubs are eyeing up the chance to swoop in and pick up Olmo on a free transfer in the meantime, with Arsenal reportedly among those on alert.
Yet James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that Olmo appears intent on remaining at his current club. That makes a January move very unlikely, as Barcelona should have this temporary measure to keep him in the squad until the window closes.
If Olmo pushed to leave, Barcelona could be backed into a corner. But as long as he wants to stay and he’s willing to take the risk that he might end up sidelined again in March, that’s up to him.
Barcelona signed Olmo for £51m over the summer of 2024, handing him a contract until 2030. He’s made 15 appearances since then, scoring six goals and assisting one more.
