Arsenal are in the midst of another international break and the Gunners will be hoping they can pick up where they left off when they return to action.
Since their dramatic 2-2 draw with Manchester City last month, Arsenal have won their last four games across all competitions and scored 14 goals in the process. They will travel to Bournemouth on October 19 when the break is over, before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool the following week.
And while many of Arsenal’s stars are now focused on their international fixtures, there is still plenty of news coming out of the Emirates. Here, Mirror Football takes a look over the latest headlines.
Real Madrid have made William Saliba their “top priority” ahead of the summer transfer window, according to French outlet Le10Sport.
The La Liga giants are said to have already made contact with Saliba’s representatives over a move, with the 23-year-old widely regard as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League after forming a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes.
The report claims that Madrid are in the market for defensive reinforcements and are targeting Saliba after missing out on Leny Yoro, with the teenager making a big money move to Manchester United instead.
Norway boss Stale Solbakken has warned Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is “a long way from playing matches”.
Odegaard picked up an ankle injury while on international duty with Norway last month and recently stepped up his rehabilitation. And Solbakken has now given an update on the midfielder, telling Norwegian outlet Dagsavisen : “There is great progress in relation to pain and injury, but he is a long way from playing matches.
He also said Odegaard’s return to action is “in Arsenal’s hands”, adding: “I don’t think anyone knows that [when he will be back], and I don’t think he knows it himself either.”
Former England goalkeeper David James believes Arteta made a huge mistake when he let Emiliano Martinez leave Arsenal for Aston Villa in 2020.
Since joining Villa, Martinez won the World Cup with Argentina and the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award in 2022. Speaking on the the Seaman Says podcast, sponsored by Betway, James said: “When you look at the Raya and Ramsdale situation at Arsenal and obviously Martinez was allowed to go because of Bernd Leno, who’s a decent goalkeeper.
“But I think Martinez would have been the perfect goalkeeper for Arsenal right now. I think he’s a monster. Weirdly there’s not a lot of goalkeepers in the Premier League these days who are capable of getting to the top corner.”
