Arsenal are making progress with a push to sign someone Kieran Tierney considers to be a “world class” footballer.
As we all know, transfer deals do not happen overnight – it can often take months, if not an entire year, to get all the groundwork done and ensure everything is in place to make a bid when it comes to major moves.
By the sounds of it, Edu Gaspar – Director of Football at Arsenal – has already started to do his homework on one target for Mikel Arteta, with progress now being made on that front…
Arsenal make progress in push to sign Martin Zubimendi
Well – according to Sportscasting – Arsenal are making progress with a move to sign Real Sociedad No.4 Martin Zubimendi.
It is said that Newcastle No.39 Bruno Guimaraes is also an option for Arteta as Arsenal aim to bolster the midfield department, although the Spain international appears to be the No.1 choice with inroads already being made on the deal.
Zubimendi – who has a £53m release clause – is not a new name for Arsenal fans.
A story from The Athletic stated that Arsenal tried to sign the Spaniard in January 2023 before eventually sealing a £12m deal for Jorginho instead – after the midfielder decided to stay at Real Sociedad.
As aforesaid, expensive transfers can be months – if not years – in the making, and while Zubimendi may have rejected Arsenal over 12 months ago, this summer could finally see Arsenal sign the man from San Sebastien.
The 25-year-old has made 45 appearances in all competitions so far this season, scoring four goals while also providing one assist.
Gunners could sign a “world class” footballer
As mentioned at the top of the article, Tierney already heaped praise on Zubimendi – who he has made 18 appearances alongside while on loan at Real Sociedad.
The Scotland international told the Guardian: “You have world class players like Zubimendi… It’s not that people don’t think they’re good, it’s just that if you’re only watching the Premier League every week, it’s hard to know.”
Real Sociedad’s midfield maestro could actually replace Jorginho at the Emirates Stadium, amid reports in Italy which state that the Arsenal No.20 has told Juventus he would like to join them.
Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Arsenal, with transfer negotiations already taking place.
