Arsenal make final Jorginho transfer decision as alternative exit route emerges

Arsenal are braced for last-gasp interest from Turkey in Jorginho – according to emerging reports.

The Sun claims the Gunners will fend off any approach from Galatasaray, with the 32-year-old said to be a target for the ambitious Super Lig side. The Turkish outfit had been linked with a move for Manchester United midfielder Casemiro prior to their transfer window closing later this month.

However, the Brazilian midfielder has signalled his preference to stay at Old Trafford this season, despite a tough start to the campaign. It means Okan Buruk’s team will turn their attention to other targets, with Jorginho – who’s valued at £12million according to Transfermarkt – reportedly one of those.

The veteran midfielder is yet to play for the Gunners this season, having signed a new shorter-term contract earlier this year. The report claims Galatasaray will look to test Arsenal’s resolve in the final few days of the Turkish transfer window, which remains open until September 13.

Although Jorginho is yet to feature in the Premier League this season, the suspension of Declan Rice, after his red card against Brighton, could create an opportunity for the Italy international to feature in the North London derby when Arsenal return to top-flight action following the season’s first international break.

New Gunners’ midfield addition Mikel Merino’s also suffered a shoulder injury in his first training session and will be out for a number of weeks, highlighting the importance of squad depth.
