Arsenal-linked £68m striker drops big hint on future amid Man Utd and Real Madrid interest

The Eredivisie star has named Arsenal as one of the top clubs he wishes to join ahead of transfer window

It was not the fairy tale ending Arsenal had hoped for on Sunday. The Gunners ended their 2023/24 campaign second to Manchester City once again with just a two point difference between the sides but while Mikel Arteta’s squad mourn the missed opportunities that left them without the Premier League trophy once again, there is one star who has called a move to the Emirates a ‘dream’.

The 22-year-old Ajax star Brian Brobbey has opened up the possibility of a potential move to N7 after he publicly expressed a desire to move to the Emirates. The striker was asked about his ‘dream club’ when speaking to NOS Jeugjournaal and the Gunners were mentioned in his response.

As per Soccer News (via SportWitness), Brobbey said: “Arsenal, I think that is a very nice club. If you look at that stadium. A very nice club, but that also applies to Manchester United, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.”

This is not the first time Brobbey has brought up a move to north London but it is unlikely that Ajax would too keen to part with their sensational striker who has 34 goal contributions in 43 games since returning to the Dutch side in 2022. Last month the 22-year-old admitted he would love a move to the Gunners and also suggested that he is worth €80m (£68m).

However, on April 21, De Telegraaf journalist Mike Verweij confirmed Ajax have no plans to let the Dutch international go in the summer window. Brobbey is currently on a deal that should see him remain at Ajax until 2027 and the side who finished fifth in the league will only consider changing their stance if offers between €60-80m come in.

It’s no secret that Arsenal are on the hunt for a new striker but Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee currently remains the primary target and, as he has a release clause of half Brobbey’s asking price, it seems unlikely Arteta will opt to sign the ambitious compatriot of the Serie A star.

The 22-year-old Brobbey joined the Ajax academy in 2010, making his senior debut in October 2020. He headed to RB Leipzig in July 2021 but returned, initially on loan, to Ajax at the end of the year and has gone on to score 31 goals in 61 Eredivisie appearances.
