Arsenal joined by Chelsea in race for £25m talent likened to Destiny Udogie

Arsenal have been fairly quiet so far in the summer transfer window, with no signings over the line to date.

The Gunners have been heavily linked with Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, but things have slowed down on that front for the time being.

However, Calafiori is not the only player currently being linked with Arsenal. Plenty of names have been doing the rounds.

In recent days, the Gunners have been linked with a “huge talent” in Serie A who has been likened to Destiny Udogie.

However, Arsenal may now have to go up against Chelsea in pursuit of the player in question.

The player in question is Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, who has been impressing on the left flank for the Serie A side.

According to PianetaLecce, Arsenal are one of the English teams considering a move for the 19-year-old Denmark youth international.

However, FootballTransfers have now reported that Chelsea see Dorgu as an ideal fit for the left side of their defence.

It is thought that Arsenal’s continued talks over Calafiori could leave the door open for the Blues to swoop for Dorgu.

The teenager has gone from strength to strength after joining Lecce from Nordsjaelland in 2023, with 34 senior outings to his name.

According to another PianetaLecce article, Dorgu has a €30million (£25million) price tag.

Goal.com has previously suggested that some people in Italy have compared Dorgu to Tottenham and Italy star Destiny Udogie.

Dorgu said to have many Premier League suitors

Kingsley Ogbodo, Dorgu’s agent, spoke last year of how his client is a “huge talent” with many Premier League eyes looking his way.

He told Bold: “Liverpool are of course not the only club that want him. There are many clubs here in England who are keeping an eye on him.

“Manchester City kept an eye on him when he played against England for the U19 national team in Hobro in Denmark.

“Lecce’s scout has also told me that Barcelona is also keeping an eye on Patrick, because he’s a huge talent.

“We’d like him to stay in Lecce a little longer. Two more seasons so he can mature and gain experience.

“So when he moves on to a bigger club in a few seasons, we will know at that time that he is ready for it.”
