Arsenal identify Premier League winger with release clause as ‘target’

Arsenal are said to be considering the signing of a West Ham winger who might want out next summer.

Arsenal are said to be interested in signing a current Premier League star as they look to bolster their attack next summer. The Gunners have prioritised strengthening their back line and midfield in recent times, spending to land the likes of Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori.

So far, it has been difficult to judge Arsenal’s summer business, with both Calafiori and Merino having spent time on the sidelines, while injuries have plagued the Gunners overall. It has been a disappointing start for Mikel Arteta’s men, who are nine points behind Liverpool in top spot, but there is still time for course correction.

Off the pitch, Arsenal’s recruitment strategy may be about to get a different look, with sporting director Edu Gaspar having announced his resignation, set to leave at the end of the season. It remains to be seen who will be brought in, and indeed what impact that will have on recruitment, albeit Arteta will still get a major say.

The changes have not prevented more transfer rumours from emerging, though, and Arsenal are now being linked with West Ham winger Mohamed Kudus, The 24-year-old has been one of the Hammers’ most dangerous players since arriving from Ajax, and he was linked with a move away last summer.

He eventually stayed put, but the Daily Mail have reported that Kudus could push for a move away next summer and that Arsenal are one of the clubs who would be interested in a move. The Gunners need more competition for Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, who have both struggled at times this season.

Raheem Sterling could be a stopgap having signed on loan, but Arsenal are likely to add a winger in the not too distant future. Whether Kudus will be that winger is another question, though, with West Ham likely to demand big money for his services. The Ghana international will have three years remaining on his contract from the summer and he is said to have an £85million release clause.
