Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Arsenal are yet to give up on keeping one player at the Emirates this summer, despite claims that he is in advanced talks to leave.
Arsenal appear to be on the cusp of greatness, with Mikel Arteta’s men coming agonisingly close to winning the Premier League title in the last two years. They also gave a good account of themselves in the Champions League before being knocked out by Bayern Munich.
And it seems that Bayern may be looking to inflict a little more misery on Arsenal, with one Gunners player being offered the chance to join the Bavarian giants.
Chido Obi-Martin is yet to make his debut for the Arsenal first-team, but is certainly making a big impression with the under-18s, scoring 32 goals in just 18 games this past season.
Arsenal still working to convince Chido Obi-Martin to stay
Incredibly, that included seven goals in one game as Arsenal beat Norwich 9-0 in April. But it would appear that he may soon be on the move.
It was claimed this week that Bayern are in advanced talks to sign Obi-Martin after he rejected a new deal at Arsenal.
But speaking to Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano has now reported that Arsenal are still working on convincing the 16-year-old to stay.
“Despite some talks of Arsenal wonderkid Chido Obi Martin now being in advanced negotiations with Bayern Munich, I’m told the situation with Obi Martin is still open,” Romano said.
“Bayern and Borussia Dortmund have been showing interest in the talented young striker for months, but Arsenal are still there and still trying to get him to sign a new contract and keep Chido at the club. Let’s see what happens in the next days.”
Fans will hope forward’s future is resolved quickly
Of course, it would be a big boost for Arsenal if they could convince Obi-Martin to stay as he clearly has so much potential.
However, the Gunners will also know that plenty of players have failed to live up to expectations after showing enormous promise in the academy. So he has plenty of work to do before he is pushing himself onto Mikel Arteta’s radar, particularly in this period where Arsenal are battling for titles again.
It is good news for the Gunners that his future remains undecided given the claims this week, but fans will hope that there is a resolution sooner rather than later.
