Arsenal are enjoying a fruitful and still have the potential to win two major trophies. Better still, it looks like the Gunners are only at the start of their journey.
Arsenal duo Mikel Arteta and Edu have helped put together a top squad that is not only laden with talent, but is also full of character and work-rate.
As a result, Arsenal remain firmly in contention for the Premier League title and are in with a chance of reaching the Champions League semi-finals.
The Gunners camp aren’t likely to rest on their laurels this summer, and there’s a decent chance we could see numerous signings through the N5 doors.
Now, Arsenal may have just received a big boost in pursuit of a transfer target who has been likened to Highbury legend Dennis Bergkamp.
The player in question is Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee, who has been impressing for Serie A side Bologna.
Tuttosport have reported that the 22-year-old’s performances for Bologna this season are ‘tempting’ Arsenal into a move for him this summer.
And while the Gunners have been linked with Zirkzee in the past, the report also claims that the player is seemingly reluctant to return to Bayern Munich.
The Dutchman has a €40million (£34million) clause to return to his former club, and obviously they’d be a big pull for any player.
However, if Zirkzee doesn’t fancy returning to the Allianz Arena, then it eliminates a club that would be a thorn in Arsenal’s side when it comes to transfer targets.
Zirkzee is a quality player who’s shining at present and also has a very high ceiling, and that’s before getting on the comparisons with Bergkamp
Former Italy international Francesco Graziani is quoted as saying by Bologna Sport News in December: “Technically he is very good and has shown that he sees the goal.
“In Zirkzee I seem to see the Dutch Dennis Bergkamp: someone who made your eyes shine with his technique.”
Meanwhile, journalist Suleyman Ozturk claimed on Voetbal International in October 2022 that Zirkzee is a level above the Manchester City forward ‘in almost everything’.
Ozturk said: “He’s better than Erling Haaland in almost everything, only the monster in him is missing.”
At £50million, Zirkzee not going to come cheap, but he certainly seems like an option worth pursuing.
