Arsenal are reportedly keen on signing Las Palmas star Alberto Moleiro, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.
Mikel Arteta became the Gunners boss in a dire state back in 2019 but has now helped them become a Premier League title challenger over the years.
They came very close to winning the league in the last two campaigns but were eventually pipped to the post by Manchester City on both occasions. So, the North London club have started the new campaign with the ambition of finally winning it this season.
Arsenal signed Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino last summer and hired Neto and Raheem Sterling on a loan move to reinforce the squad.
They had a promising start to this term but after accumulating only two points from the last four games, Arteta’s side have now found themselves behind in the title race.
Moleiro to Arsenal
The Gunners are currently fourth in the table with 19 points from 11 games, sitting nine points behind the league leaders Liverpool.
Now, Fichajes states that Arsenal want to strengthen the midfield with dynamic and versatile players and are ‘determined’ to purchase Moleiro – who has a £33m release clause in his current deal.
The 21-year-old’s current contract with the Spanish giants is set to expire in 2026 so he could be allowed to leave next summer in a cut-price deal.
The youngster plays in the left flank for Las Palmas but can also provide cover in the attacking midfield position if needed. He is technically sound, can play threading passes between the lines and also has the ability to dribble past opposition defenders in tight areas.
In 13 La Liga encounters, the youngster has scored four goals this season. He even helped his side come away with a positive result by netting against Real Madrid earlier this term.
Martin Odegaard is the only attacking midfield option Arteta currently has so the Emirates club could do with adding depth in this position.
It is going to be interesting to see whether Arsenal can eventually manage to secure Moleiro’s signature to strengthen the midfield department at the end of this season.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will return to action after the international break when they take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium.
