Arsenal could hijack deal for £51m Euro 2024 finalist after Barcelona delay

According to a recent report, Arsenal have the chance to hijack a deal after Barcelona put the deal on hold.

The Gunners have made a pretty slow start to the summer transfer window but with Euro 2024 now coming to an end, deals are expected to accelerate.

Riccardo Calafiori is close to completing a switch to North London and now the club are targeting a move for another player starring at the tournament.

Barcelona had agreed personal terms but have now placed the deal on hold, leaving the door open for Arsenal.

Arsenal could hijack deal for Nico Williams

Mikel Arteta is really keen to add Spain and Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams to his ranks this summer transfer window.

The 2002-born attacker has caught the eye at Euro 2024 and a number of clubs are now interested in his signature.

One of those is Barcelona, who agreed personal terms with Williams earlier this week, though, there is now a hold-up in the deal.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg has reported that the Catalan club need to sell players before they can sign the Spaniard, who has a £51m release clause.

As such, the deal to sign Williams has now been delayed which gives Arsenal an opportunity to hijack it.

Arsenal need to act fast

Barcelona will be frantically trying to offload players over the next week or so as they’ll recognise Williams if of serious interest to Arsenal.

Sporting director Edu Gaspar needs take advantage of the situation and steal a march on his signature immediately before any other rival suitors.

If Arsenal do manage to land his signature, it’d be regarded as one of the signings of the summer across the Premier League and Europe.
