Arsenal considering Marcus Thuram as Benjamin Sesko alternative

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have reportedly identified Inter Milan ace Marcus Thuram as an alternative to priority target Benjamin Sesko.

After missing out on the Premier League title for the second season in a row, Arsenal were expected to go big in the transfer window in an attempt to catch rivals Manchester City. The Gunners added a world-class centre-back and a midfielder to the mix. While multiple reports suggested they would bring in a new number nine, Mikel Arteta’s team decided against it.

The Gunners were linked with a move for Benjamin Sesko in the initial phase of the transfer window. But, the move did not go through and the 21-year-old striker penned down a new deal with RB Leipzig. Reinforcing their attack is still a top priority for them and according to a report from Caught Offside, they have already identified Marcus Thuram as an alternative to Sesko.

The Slovenian international might have signed a new deal that runs until the summer of 2029. But, Arsenal remain keen on his signature and they will return for his services next summer after having failed to sign him this time out.

While Sesko remains the top target for the Gunners, they have started looking for alternatives to ensure they have a Plan B in place. Marcus Thuram’s impressive performances for Inter Milan have put him on the radar of the North London club.

Thuram is Arsenal’s Plan B to reinforce their attack

Thuram joined the Serie A giants in the summer of 2023, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. While the versatile French attacker is already 27, he could be a great short-term fix for the Gunners.

The Frenchman had an impressive debut campaign, and he has been on fire since the start of the new season. In just three league outings so far, Thuram has four goals and two assists. He could significantly bolster their attack.

While Sesko could help them in the short as well as the long run. If they fail to bring him to the club, Thuram could be the perfect fit for them as he has enough experience and has been a consistent performer for Inter over the past 12 months. While Arsenal are keen, it will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old has a realistic chance of leaving San Siro as he still has four years left on his deal there.
