Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta responds to 115 financial charges hanging over Man City ahead of Premier League title-deciding final day

Mikel Arteta gave his verdict on the 115 financial charges hanging over Manchester City ahead of the Premier League’s title-deciding final matchday.

As the Premier League season reaches its climax, the spotlight is firmly on City, who are on the brink of securing their historic fourth successive title. Pep Guardiola’s troops, known for their late-season surges, have once again found form since January, putting them in prime position to clinch the title. For Arsenal, it will be a bitter pill to swallow as it marks the second consecutive season they would potentially miss out on top-flight glory due to City’s prowess.

However, the celebrations are overshadowed by the 115 financial charges hanging over City, raising questions about the legitimacy of their recent dominance. They were charged with a string of breaches of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, spanning from 2009/10 to 2017/18 seasons back in February 2023, but a judgement is yet to be announced. Guardiola and City officials have consistently defended the club, expressing confidence that they will be cleared of any wrongdoing.

The ambiguity surrounding the charges has led to widespread speculation about the possible repercussions for City. Should the reigning champions be found guilty, the consequences could range from financial penalties to points deductions or even the stripping of titles won during the period in question.

As the final matchday approaches, the Premier League title race remains undecided. City are poised to secure the championship, but Arsenal remain in the hunt, hoping for a slip-up against David Moyes’ West Ham. Nonetheless, the Gunners must do their job and pick up the three points against Everton at Emirates to remain in contention.
