Arsenal have a track record when it comes to signing players from Manchester in recent years.
For example, during the 2022 summer transfer window the North London club signed Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko after the duo spent time with Mikel Arteta at the Etihad Stadium when he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach.
Now that the latest summer transfer window has entered its final month, the Gunners, who have finished second behind City in the two previous Premier League campaigns, have another player from the Manchester club in their sights.
Arsenal monitoring Julian Alvarez situation amid Man City unrest
A recent report from The Mirror has claimed that Arsenal are monitoring Julian Alvarez’s situation at City.
The report also adds that the Blues would demand a fee of £80m to sell the Argentine, which would be too expensive for the Gunners
After Alvarez told the media in Argentina that he was annoyed at being left out in certain City games last season, Guardiola responded by saying that the striker has a decision to make over whether he wants to stay at the Manchester club or leave this summer.
City shouldn’t be helping Arsenal get stronger
During his two seasons at City, Alvarez, who is picking up a weekly wage of £100k-a-week, has scored 36 goals and delivered 18 assists in 103 appearances across all competitions.
In our view, regardless of how much they would sell him for or if he was or wasn’t too expensive for Arsenal, the Citizens should not be looking to strengthen their main title rivals, especially by selling them a versatile player who has shown how capable he is of delivering goal contributions.
Moving forward, if the 24-year-old does decide he wants to leave City this summer, the ideal scenario would be for the Blues to sell him to a non-English club who’d be willing to pay a suitable fee for him.
