Arsenal and Liverpool are facing issues in separate transfer chases – with Crystal Palace refusing to budge on their valuations of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi.
The duo starred as Palace secured a top-half finish in the Premier League last season, with both called up to England’s squad for Euro 2024. While Eze was restricted to substitute appearances, Guehi became a key man in defence.
The 24-year-old emerged as John Stones’ primary partner at centre-back, helping the Three Lions to the final of the tournament. While England ultimately fell short, Palace duo Guehi and Eze have attracted serious interest thanks to their performances this summer.
According to The Guardian, Palace will demand £70million for both Guehi and Eze. That is despite the defender only having two years remaining on his contract, with Liverpool set to pause their interest.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are yet to follow up on their interest in Eze since Palace made their demands over a fee clear. Earlier this week, the Gunners also shelved their plans to make a move for Guehi.
Palace’s demands for a fee of £70m is thought to be the reason why Mikel Arteta has moved on to other targets. The 20 percent sell-on clause that Chelsea inserted when selling Guehi to Palace in 2021 is understood to be driving the Eagles’ high demands.
Guehi’s stock has certainly never been higher, as he comes off the back of a successful tournament with England. His centre-back partner for the Three Lions John Stones certainly holds him in high regard.
“So good. For him to have come in and not have felt those feelings around tournament football before or these kinds of games – all kind of different emotions that come with it that you have never experienced before – he’s handled it so well,” Stones told BBC ’s Football Daily Podcast midway through the Euros.
“I said to him, or whoever I’m playing with: ‘I’m your right arm and you’re my left – we do this together. I’ve got your back.’ He’s bought into that so well. I believe massively in partnerships – you do it all together.
