Arsenal and Lazio have agreed a loan-to-buy deal for left-back Nuno Tavares, who has been given permission to discuss personal terms with the Serie A club.
Tavares, who is not part of Mikel Arteta’s plans, recently outlined his desire to remain with the Gunners for pre-season before making a final decision on his future later this summer.
But Arsenal have made it clear to Tavares that he can leave following an underwhelming loan spell at Nottingham Forest and now Lazio have agreed a loan deal which includes an obligation to buy worth between £6million and £7m plus a sell-on clause.
Arsenal are beginning to turn the screw in their bid to clear the decks as there are a number of fringe players within their ranks that can leave for the right price.
Marseille are now showing interest in striker Eddie Nketiah with the French club still yet to agree personal terms with Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood – despite striking a deal with the Red Devils. The club’s president Pablo Longoria is driving Marseille’s interest after previously considering an approach for Nketiah back in the summer of 2022.
Discussions with Bologna remain ongoing over a deal for £45m-rated defender Riccardo Calafiori, who wants to join Arsenal. Rival suitors have since cooled their interest as the Gunners have made progress in talks with the player’s representatives.
Speaking to ESPN, Arteta recently made it known that Arsenal will be active in the transfer market this summer, stating: “We are looking to improve in every possible department. With the new regulations, there are certain things we have to respect and be conscious of and then obviously the Euros and Copa America are slowing everything down. Hopefully now it is going to pick up a little bit.
“There are things that we have to improve, that’s for sure and we are going to try to. But the market is tricky. We have been very aggressive, we are very determined and we have a clear idea obviously of what we want to do. It will come down to finding the right agreements at the right time.”
