Another Day, Another Bombshell: Dodgers Acquire Brewers Star Freddy Peralta in a Franchise-Tilting Power Move

As the Los Angeles Dodgers try to find healthy starting pitching, the trade deadline can’t come soon enough.

Much like last season, the Dodgers have an All-Star team of starters on the injured list. They need a reliable innings-eater, someone who can ease the load on stars like Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow as they work their way back to full strength.

Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta would be an ideal get for the Dodgers. And with a $110 million free agency projection (via Spotrac), the Brewers have incentive to move him sometime before his contract expires after the 2026 season.

The only problem is that the Brewers are suddenly on a tear. Winners of nine of their last 10, Milwaukee suddenly sits only half a game out of playoff position at 34-29, so selling a year early on Peralta would be a slap in the face to the fan base.

Still, Sam Phalen of FanSided believes it’s possible Peralta could be traded, and drew up a three-player package to try and sway the Brewers.

“The Dodgers are one of the teams that could have interest in Peralta at the deadline and have the prospects to give Brewers GM Matt Arnold an offer he can’t refuse,” Phalen wrote.

“If the Dodgers called and offered outfielder James Outman, Jackson Ferris, and River Ryan…Would the Brewers actually turn that down? I have no idea what the actual price tag would look like, but I know that the Dodgers could afford to pay it.”

Ferris, a 21-year-old left-handed pitcher, probably has the highest ceiling of the three pieces above, while Ryan showed well in four games in the majors last season before undergoing Tommy John surgery. It’s a package with high upside, but probably not enough of a sure thing involved to get Milwaukee on board.

Does that mean the Dodgers categorically cannot land Peralta? Not by any means, but they’d likely have to include a top-three prospect in their system and also hope for Milwaukee to drop back in the standings.
