Matthew Stafford won’t be leaving the Los Angeles Rams this offseason, but there should be a handful of quarterbacks on the move over the next two months.
On Saturday afternoon, Mike Silver of The Athletic said there are at least seven teams in the NFL right now that don’t have their Week 1 starting quarterback on their roster. Unsurprisingly, the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders are on his list. Both teams made a run at Stafford earlier this week. They reportedly offered him close to $100 million guaranteed for the next two seasons.
The Indianapolis Colts are also expected to be in the quarterback marker this offseason. General manager Chris Ballard has already talked about bringing in competition for Anthony Richardson.
“It’s got to be the right guy to create real competition,” Ballard said. “We want to create real competition. I think it’s good for the team. I think it’s good for Anthony. We drafted Anthony high knowing it was going to take some time and we knew there’s going to be some hiccups along the way. I know we all want a finished product right now. I do. You do. Fans do. We all do. But I think as he continues to progress in his young career, us adding competition, I think, will help up everybody’s game
Here are the seven teams in need of a new quarterback, according to Silver:
- Las Vegas Raiders
- New York Giants
- Tennessee Titans
- New York Jets
- Indianapolis Colts
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Cleveland Browns
If these teams are looking to make a splash in free agency, they may want to target Sam Darnold. He’s coming off a season where he completed 66.2 percent of his passes for 4,319 yards with 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.

There are a few more free agent quarterbacks who’ll receive serious interest this offseason, including Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson. The former has been linked to the Giants for the past few days.
As for the NFL Draft, the top two quarterback options are Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders. They could make sense for the Titans and Raiders, respectively.
Free agency officially starts on March 12. The NFL Draft, meanwhile, will take place from April 24-26.
