Dallas Cowboys coaching staff moves
Dallas Cowboys hire Brian Schottenheimer as new head coach
Mike McCarthy brought Brian Schottenheimer into the Cowboys organization.
Now he’s stayed behind to take his place.
Schottenheimer, the team’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons, agreed to a contract to become the Cowboys head coach. In what can only be called an unexpected turn, the long-time coordinator is now a first-time head coach, becoming the 10th man to hold that title in the franchise’s rich history.

A familiar face returns as defensive coordinator
The Dallas Cowboys have a new defensive coordinator.
A day after introducing new head coach Brian Schottenheimer, the organization announced that Matt Eberflus is joining his staff to lead the defense. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Eberflus was previously with the Cowboys from 2011-17, the first five of those years as the linebackers coach. He added passing game coordinator to his title in his final two seasons with the club.
The long-time assistant was named the head coach of the Chicago Bears in 2022, after four seasons as the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator. He was fired last season shortly after the team’s 23-20 loss to Detroit on Thanksgiving Day.
A run-focused offensive coordinator joins the mix
Brian Schottenheimer has filled out the coordinator positions on his staff.
The Dallas Cowboys hired Cardinals assistant Klayton Adams as offensive coordinator. The 41-year-old has spent he past two seasons in Arizona. The Cardinals ranked seventh in rushing yards per game this season and eighth in rushing touchdowns. He came to Arizona after spending the previous four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
A new name leads the special teams side
The Cowboys hired Nick Sorensen as their special teams coach.
Sorensen, 46, has close ties to newly hired head coach Brian Schottenheimer. The two worked together in Seattle and Jacksonville.
Sorensen spent the last three seasons with the 49ers, serving as the defensive coordinator in 2024 before being let go.
