Lions Urged to Pursue Under the Radar Corner as Carlton Davis Replacement

The Detroit Lions were urged to pursue a free agent corner who missed more than half of the 2024 season with an injury.

The Detroit Lions invested heavily in the cornerback position during the 2024 NFL offseason.

They signed Amik Robertson to a two-year deal.

They made a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Carlton Davis.

Then the Lions spent their first two picks in last year’s draft on corners, selecting Alabama’s Terrion Arnold and Missouri’s Ennis Rakestraw Jr.

Despite everything they did at the position a year ago, they find themselves once again needing to upgrade at the position during the 2025 offseason.

Davis’ contract has now expired and neither of the rookies proved themselves as a dependable option in their first season.

With those question marks at the position, one writer believes the team team should pursue a free agent who has flown under the radar a bit early in the offseason.

In an article discussing one free agent each NFL team should pursue this offseason, CBS Sports’ Jordan Dajani named New Orleans Saints corner Paulson Adebo as the player the Lions should go after.

Adebo hasn’t been getting the same kind of attention as Davis or Jets corner D.J. Reed, but maybe he should be.

He only played seven games in 2024 because of a broken femur, but he was putting together a prolific season before the injury.

In his seven games, Adebo made 52 total tackles, intercepted three passes, and defended 10 passes. In his last full season, Adebo was responsible for 76 tackles, four interceptions, and 18 passes defended.

He has also held opposing QBs to a completion percentage of 55% in 2023.

Adebo’s willingness to make a tackle and his success in coverage would make him a great fit for the Lions’ secondary and he might even come at a lower price than he should because that injury put a stop to the best season of his career.
