Las Vegas Raiders introduce coach Pete Carroll, GM John Spytek

The Las Vegas Raiders have officially introduced new head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek.

Team owner Mark Davis led an introductory press conference the Raiders’ headquarters in Henderson on Monday.

Carroll and Spytek take over respectively from Antonio Pierce and Tom Telesco, who were fired this month after finishing the 2024 season with a 4-13 record.

Both men said they were excited to join an iconic franchise and make fans and former players proud.

Carroll said “the Raiders captured me a long time ago” as he grew up in the Bay Area. His vision for the team means high expectations right away.

“It took us a few years to get to the very top of the last couple of programs I was with,” he said, referring to his past heading coaching experiences. “We’re starting right now, going forward, immediately.”

Carroll was the head coach of the Seattle Seahawks for 14 seasons, from 2010 to 2023. He took over a Seattle team that went 5-11 the season before he arrived and turned it into a perennial contender with 10 playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title.

On creating a great team, Carroll said it would come down to each player to be a great teammate. He said he would work to instill a love of competition in each player.

“The culture is the players, you’ll see that,” the coach said. “But we’ll show them the way.”

Spytek was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ front office for the last nine seasons. He helped the team acquire his former college teammate, Tom Brady, leading to a Super Bowl championship. Brady is a limited partner in the Raiders.

Becoming a general manager was a career goal, Spytek told reporters as he thanked the many people he’s worked with and known in his career. He said he and his wife planned to be active in Southern Nevada.

“There’s just some teams where it means a little bit more,” Spytek said. “There’s just some teams where they deserve- the NFL’s better when they’re crushing it.”

Carroll said he and Spytek expected to have the “perfect mesh” of experience, energy and mentality. Spytek said he has been a fan of Carroll’s teams, joking about how the coach’s Seahawks crushed the Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII when Spytek was working for Denver.

On the team’s future quarterback, Spytek said the Raiders would turn over every stone to find a leader who pushes teammates to win.
