Arsenal told to spend £80m to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal have been made aware that they will have to splash big money to sign Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres next summer.

The Gunners were said to be looking to purchase a new striker in the recently concluded summer window with the 26-year-old heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

However, the North London club eventually opted not to formalise their interest in signing him and didn’t hire any other striker either. But, following Eddie Nketiah’s departure and Gabriel Jesus’ continuous injury problems, Arsenal may finally look to sign a new prolific goal-scorer next year.

No strikers have been as prolific as Gyokeres in recent years. He managed to put the ball back of the net 43 times last season and registered 15 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.

Now, he has also enjoyed a stellar start to this season for Sporting, scoring seven goals and notching up three assists in five appearances in all competitions.

Moreover, he has also showcased his goal-scoring prowess on the international stage for Sweden recently, scoring three goals and registering two assists in two appearances in the Nations League.

So, he could be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, Football London states that purchasing the 26-year-old won’t be cheap as he has a £80m release clause in his current deal.

Kai Havertz has established himself as the first-choice striker for Arsenal in recent times and he has started to showcase that he can be trusted to score goals consistently.

However, it’s always necessary to provide competition for places and Gyokeres would certainly be able to provide a tough competition for Havertz for the first-team spot if he were to join the club.

However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the North London club eventually opt to make a concrete approach to secure his signature to strengthen the attacking department.

Meanwhile, Arsenal will resume their Premier League campaign following the international break when they take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. After that, they will take on Atalanta in the Champions League next week before facing off against Manchester City in the Premier League.
