Welcome to the silliest day of Silly Season, i.e. Transfer Deadline Day. Among the most dramatic situations on this D-Day will be the fates of Raheem Sterling and Jadon Sancho, which may or may not be directly entwined — with or without Chelsea and Manchester United figuring out a trade swap.
Sancho still seems quite set on Juventus, but reports late yesterday hinted at the 24-year-old potentially stalling to see if Chelsea can come up with a solution.
On our end, any solution would require a Raheem Sterling exit. Head coach Enzo Maresca has publicly urged the 29-year-old to find himself a new team, with his prospects of finding minutes at Chelsea at practically zero. The rumors of Manchester United being interested haven’t really progressed however, and Crystal Palace were ruled out as well. The Independent linked him with Arsenal in the meantime, but that possibility is complicated by the Gunners being “unwilling to pay a fee” and not wanting to cover any more than 50 per cent of Sterling’s wages.
Perhaps those are not insurmountable problem? Depends on how desperate we might be..
