Porto entered talks to re-sign him a few days ago, and after successful negotiations between the two clubs, Romano has revealed that a deal has been struck.
Arsenal and Porto are said to have signed all documents for a season-long loan for Vieira, and the Gunners have given him permission to fly to Portugal to undergo a medical and complete all other formalities.
For those wondering, this is a straight loan – Porto will have no option or obligation to make this move permanent in 2025.
Romano tweeted late last night: “Fabio Vieira’s loan move to Porto from Arsenal is sealed! All documents have been signed.
“AFC have just authorized Fabio to travel on Tuesday for medical tests. Loan move confirmed, NO buy option.”
It made sense for Arsenal to sign Vieira when they did – he checked a lot of boxes.
The 24-year-old was viewed as a backup for Martin Odegaard, but his versatility meant he could play out wide and also as a number eight when required.
Despite that, Vieira has started just five Premier League games in two full seasons, which is not good at all for someone who cost £34 million.
Now back at Porto, a club and league he’s very familiar with, Vieira has a chance to play regularly and prove to the world he has what it takes.
However, unless he has an absolutely insane season, we just can’t see a way back for him at Arsenal – we expect him to be sold in the summer of 2025.
