Fabrizio Romano confirms the one signing Arsenal are aiming to make before deadline day

Arsenal could not have asked for a better start to their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with two wins from two under their belt.

The Gunners sit on maximum points having won both of their games by a 2-0 scoreline against Wolves and then Aston Villa this weekend.

Mikel Arteta has to be absolutely delighted with what he has seen from his side over the opening week of the new campaign.

However, he may still have some slight concerns when it comes to the north London club’s activity in the transfer market.

A conclusion to the deal to see Mikel Merino join Arsenal is now imminent with the Spaniard having undergone his medical over the weekend.

But the midfielder would only account for Arsenal‘s second signing of the summer as Fabrizio Romano has now claimed there is hope for one more to arrive.

Arsenal plotting to sign a new forward before deadline day

With two of the key positions now addressed – with Merino’s announcement expected soon – Arsenal can put their focus into adding a new attacker.

Gabriel Jesus is already sidelined through another injury issue having already come into the new campaign with questions surrounding his goal output.

This has led to Arsenal being linked with a potential move for Victor Osimhen, among other striker options over the course of the summer.

Speaking on his Playback channel, Fabrizio Romano has now claimed Arsenal could look to bring a new forward in this week with a winger a real possibility.

“The intention of Arsenal remains to add one more offensive player. I don’t think it’s going to be a player like Nico Williams,” he said.

“At the moment, this is described as unlikely as he intends to stay at Athletic Bilbao. But Arsenal will be one of the clubs to watch.”

Arsenal should break the bank to sign Nico Williams

Of course, it would be a huge ask to see Nico Williams now leave his boyhood club, but it would be a move which could make Arsenal the title favourites.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Williams all summer and continue to be named in the list of potential landing spots for the Spain international.

This is a player who Barcelona have been desperate to sign all summer but he could well prove the missing piece to Arsenal finally getting their title hopes over the line.

It would now take a huge offer to see Bilbao part with their prized asset but it would certainly be a move which would send shockwaves across Europe, not just the Premier League.

The signings of Riccardo Calafiori and – the imminent – Merino are both solid additions to the squad, but adding a player like Williams would be a real superstar purchase.
