Arsenal’s Ben White now shares what is ‘not nice’ about playing against Newcastle United

Newcastle United and Arsenal have been developing something of a rivalry over the last few years.

Indeed, there have been a number of flash points on the pitch.

Both Bruno Guimaraes and Kai Havertz were perhaps lucky not to have been sent off during Newcastle’s 1-0 Premier League win over the Gunners in November, a result that had Mikel Arteta fuming.

The fact Anthony Gordon’s goal was allowed to stand after three separate VAR checks led the Arsenal boss to question the standard of refereeing in the country, after all.

Such ill-feeling between the clubs is also believed to be in play off the field.

There is said to be an “ongoing tension” behind the scenes between the two clubs, with Arsenal reportedly trying to limit how much financial power clubs with ownership models like Newcastle and Manchester City can actually yield.

Still, as fascinating as that is, what matters most are the events on the pitch.

Recently, Gunners star Ben White was asked an interesting question.

Ben White shares what is “not nice” about playing against Newcastle

Speaking to Sky Sports, the defender was asked which ground offered the toughest away atmosphere in the Premier League.

White named St James’ Park as that very stadium, believing it harder to play in than Anfield.

“Newcastle is not very nice,” he said.

When asked how it compares to Anfield, White added: “Probably say St. James’. I am not intimidated, but it’s so big. The (away) fans are so far away. They are always up high and you don’t see any of them.”

Newcastle’s home form is their bedrock

Newcastle lost some of their imperious sheen at home last season, having been almost untouchable there during the 2022-23 campaign.

If Eddie Howe is to get his side back into the top four, making sure St James’ is a fortress again is surely of the utmost importance.

St James’ is a unique ground, revered by others players in the Premier League. Transfer target Marc Guehi, after all, talked up the atmosphere too.

Hopefully, Newcastle can build on their home form to enjoy another great season.
