Riccardo Calafiori says Arsenal have a young player who’s going to explode this season

We’ve not seen a young player break through at Arsenal for a little while now.

In the late 2010s and early 2020s, Arsenal seemed to have a new academy product breaking through every week.

Whether it was Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Eddie Nketiah or Reiss Nelson, Arsenal had a continuous stream of young players breaking through.

However, over the past three seasons or so, we haven’t seen many young players have that same level of impact.

The likes of Charlie Patino and Reuell Walters threatened to break through, but there haven’t been many academy stars who have made the grade.

Ahead of this season, Arsenal’s senior players have now been predicting which young player will have a breakthrough season in 2024/25.

Interestingly, Riccardo Calafiori has named Myles Lewis-Skelly as the player he believes will have a breakout campaign for the Gunners.

Riccardo Calafiori thinks Myles Lewis-Skelly could have a big season

The Italian shared his verdict on Lewis-Skelly in a video posted on social media.

“Breakthrough season?” Calafiori was asked.

“Myles,” Calafiori said.”

Myles Lewis-Skelly has impressed Mikel Arteta

Lewis-Skelly could be set for a big breakout season at Arsenal.

Indeed, according to Kaya Kaynak, Lewis-Skelly recently left Mikel Arteta applauding in a pre-season friendly.

“Yeah, like you say, a sign of where they will be and we noted Myles Lewis-Skelly is clearly someone Mikel has a lot of investment in,” Kaynak said.

“He was applauding those cross-field switches of play, he was telling him what to do and giving him instructions on the touchline, you don’t do that to a player unless you really care. He seems to have a real investment in Lewis-Skelly.”

The youngster seems to be on the right path to make an impact, and with numerous cup competitions and European football this season, Arsenal have plenty of chances to rotate and use their young players this term.

Don’t be shocked if Lewis-Skelly makes a real impact for Arsenal this term.
