Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are talking non-stop about signing £25m player

Riccardo Calafiori, as things stand, is Arsenal’s only major signing of this summer transfer window.

The Italian defender arrived from Bologna earlier this summer, and since then, Arsenal haven’t been all that active in the market.

However, that could soon change.

Indeed, Mikel Merino has been strongly linked to Arsenal for quite some time now, and according to Fabrizio Romano, speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, the Gunners are making progress on this deal.

The journalist says that Arsenal are in constant conversation about signing Merino, and that talks are proving to be very positive

Arsenal are in constant talks about Mikel Merino

Romano shared what he knows about the £25m man and Arsenal.

“The conversation continues, it is similar to the Calafiori story, there is an ongoing negotiation on a verbal basis with Real Sociedad,” Romano said.

“Sometimes rather than sending official bids, you only send a formal bid as a part of the process, but the daily conversation is what matters. Talks are ongoing, there are constant conversations. Discussing the payment structure, the payment terms, it is very positive conversation.”

Mikel Merino to Arsenal should get done

This is a deal that should eventually be finalised.

Merino is clearly a player Arsenal want to sign, and Merino wants to join the Gunners.

Everything points towards a deal ultimately getting done, and while there may be a bit of a hiccup in terms of payment structure, these issues are usually easy to iron out.

Arsenal need an extra body in the midfield after losing Mohamed Elneny this summer, and after an incredible Euro 2024, Merino could be just the man Arsenal need.

This is a deal that should be finalised before deadline day.
