Right now, Edu and Mikel Arteta have a considerable job on their hands for the final two weeks of Arsenal’s transfer window.
Arsenal still want to sell four senior players before the deadline, then hoping to bring in one or two talents to improve Arteta’s squad depth.
Arsenal begin their season against Wolverhampton Wanderers at 3pm on Saturday – hoping to continue their impressive pre-season form at the Emirates.
Riccardo Calafiori impressed on his Arsenal debut against Lyon last Sunday, a player William Saliba is excited to play alongside.
Calafiori might not start for Arsenal against Wolves, meaning the Gunners will begin the new season with a very similar XI to the one that finished the last campaign against Everton.
Of course, in order to refresh their squad further, Arsenal see it necessary to sanction an exit first.
And whilst youngster Charles Sagoe Jr might not be taken into that calculation, given he’s not quite made it into first team thinking, he could now be set to leave the Emirates on loan.
Hale End talent Charles Sagoe Jr could now leave Arsenal for League One loan
According to the Shropshire Star, League One side Shrewsbury Town are now considering a season-long loan move for Sagoe Jr, a talent who has always impressed in Arsenal’s youth sides.
The report insists that the ‘unpredictable’ left-winger, who likes to cut inside on to his right foot in similar fashion to Bukayo Saka on the opposite wing, would sign a new Arsenal contract before leaving.
Of course, Sagoe Jr is one of several players at Arsenal who are now slightly in limbo – too old to continue playing for the under-21 team but not ready for Arteta’s demands either.
Omar Rekik, Charlie Patino and Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand are all in a similar situation this summer.
Although, Salah-Eddine really impressed for Arsenal in the US, and does now seem closer to Arteta’s plans.
Either way, it would be a positive if Sagoe Jr is able to go out on loan and to gain further first team experience after spending the second half of last season at Swansea City.
At this stage, it seems unlikely that the 20-year-old will have a first-team future at Arsenal.
However, Sagoe Jr may follow a similar path to Brooke Norton-Cuffy in the next year or so, a Hale End talent who has just secured an impressive move to Genoa whilst raising funds for Arsenal.
