Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal attacking target is now set for £51.5m move to PSG

Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks as Mikel Arteta and Edu look to add to their squad.

The Gunners have already made one senior signing this summer, bringing Italy international defender Riccardo Calafiori to the Emirates Stadium from Bologna.

Arsenal also seem to be making good progress in pursuit of Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Mikel Merino, with talks said to be advanced.

However, there will invariably be transfer targets that will slip through the net and go elsewhere.

Fabrizio Romano has now shared a big update on an attacking talent that the Gunners have reportedly been monitoring.

Desire Doue snubs Arsenal and other Premier League suitors for PSG move

In July, German outlet Bild reported that Arsenal were among the clubs interested in signing Rennes prodigy Desire Doue.

The French star has also been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

However, Doue will not be moving to the Premier League any time soon, as he has decided on a switch to Paris Saint-Germain, according to Romano.

The transfer insider declared “here we go” on Doue to PSG, with around £51.5million set to change hands between the two clubs.

Doue’s medical is set to take place on Thursday as the Parisians got the better of Bayern Munich in the race for the winger, added Romano

What has been said about Desire Doue?

Doue has made a huge name for himself over the past year.

He impressed for Rennes in 2023/24, making 17 starts in Ligue 1 as he scored four goals and provided five assists in France’s top-flight.

Nemanja Matic, who played for Rennes in the first half of last season, sung the 19-year-old’s praises in conversation with France-Ouest, via football.london.

“In my entire career, I’ve never played in such a young team, with players at 19 or 20 years old,” said Matic.

“[But] it’s always interesting to see how they progress. Desire has great potential.

“There are a few others but I don’t want to say their names because I don’t think it’s good for them.”

Meanwhile, Rennes teammate Baptiste Santamaria recently said the reported Arsenal target could become ‘unplayable’.

“He’s a very talented player with a great sense of football,” he told TNT Sports earlier this summer.

“But he’s still young. But he’s a player who aspires to go to the biggest clubs.

“He’s one of a kind: he likes to hit the ball but he’s solid on his feet. Desire’s technical, percussive and physical qualities are quite incredible.

“When he becomes more consistent, he’ll be unplayable. For his age, he’s the most gifted youngster I’ve seen in my career.”
