Arsenal have been slow to get going in this summer transfer window so far with just one new major signing arriving so far.
Indeed, Riccardo Calafiori is the only major signing Arsenal have made this summer.
However, that could soon be about to change.
Mikel Merino has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal, and now, it sounds as though this deal is going to be finalised.
Mikel Merino to Arsenal will be done next week
According to Arsenal insider, Team News and Ticks, writing on his Patreon page, Arsenal are set to sign Merino next week.
The reporter says that while he hates to describe transfers as ‘done’, he has now indeed been told that Merino will be joining the Gunners next week.
“This message goes against everything I stand for because I hate the word “done” and I hate time frames,” He wrote.
“But just been told Merino will be done next week.”
Mikel Merino could make his debut against Wolves
Merino may well become an Arsenal player within the next seven days, and if all goes to plan, he could join in time to play a part in the Gunners’ opening game of the season against Wolves.
Of course, with very little preparation time under Mikel Arteta, it’s unlikely that Merino will start this game, but it wouldn’t be a shock at all if he came off the bench.
Arsenal appear to be getting a top player here.
Merino has previously been described as ‘world class’ by Kieran Tierney, and his showings at Euro 2024 were pivotal as Spain won the tournament.
Merino has had a previous spell in the Premier League with Newcastle, and, unfortunately, he struggled to make much of an impact during his time with the Magpies.
However, he has seriously improved since that point, and now, he’s ready to be a star for Arsenal.
Merino looks like he will be Arsenal’s second big signing of the summer.
