Arsenal are looking to the market once more and have been linked with a surprise move for one of the Premier League’s top forwards.
The Gunners are keen to add a new number nine if they can this summer.
After missing out on the likes of Ivan Toney, Dusan Vlahovic and Benjamin Sesko to name but a few, there is a feeling that Arsenal might have missed the boat with getting a top number nine in.
However, all might not be lost if reports this weekend are to be believed.
According to reports today, the Gunners are keen on signing Manchester City forward, Julian Alvarez.
It comes amid suggestions that Alvarez is not entirely happy at City sitting behind Erling Haaland and Arsenal are now keeping tabs on the situation.
Of course, Alvarez has been a key player for City in recent times.
And looking back at previous praise going his way, a certain Phil Foden has previously lauded the impact of Alvarez at City.
Phil Foden says Julian Alvarez is ‘magical’ after being linked with Arsenal
Speaking to BBC Sport after City had seen off RB Leipzig in the Champions League last season, Foden was full of praise for Alvarez and his contributions.
“Magical. Julian has been top this season. He is someone we look to now to score the big goals,” Foden said.
“He came on and changed the game and he is a big player for us.”
Foden is not the only one to lavish praises on Alvarez either.
A £14m signing from River Plate, the Argentinian forward has also had praise from his manager, Pep Guardiola.
“Julian is amazing so he’s an extraordinary player and many things help us,” Pep said in February.
“Really good, so very pleased for his birthday, not just for the goals, the many things he does.”
Arsenal, then, would be getting a certified winner and a player very much approved by two of the highest ranking judges in English football.
Chelsea have also shown interest in Alvarez in the recent past.
But if he does somehow wind up at The Emirates, then it could well be a deciding factor in what’s set to be another hard-fought title race.
