Arsenal Yet To Make Formal Approach For Midfield Target

Arsenal are yet to make a formal bid for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino, according to Sky Sports News.

The Gunners are trying to strengthen their team further this summer as they are trying to overtake Manchester City to win the league.

After adding Italy defender Ricardo Calafiori to their squad, Mikel Arteta has set his sights on Spanish midfielder Merino.

The 28-year-old has been with Real Sociedad since 2018 when he left Newcastle United for the Spanish club.

He is currently in the final year of his contract at Real Sociedad and Arsenal are keen on bringing him to the Emirates this summer.

However, the north Londoners are yet to approach the Spanish club formally for Merino even though the club and the player are interested in doing a deal.

Merino was an important cog in Imanol Alguacil’s team where he made 45 appearances and contributed to 13 goals from midfield.

Now it remains to be seen if and when the Gunners will present a bid for the Euro 2024 winner in the upcoming days.
