Real Madrid plan to sell ‘world-class’ Arsenal target if he doesn’t sign new contract

Real Madrid could now reluctantly agree to seek a departure for a player who’s recently been linked with a move to Arsenal.

Right now it seems as if Edu and his transfer team are beginning to step up their efforts to improve Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Goalkeeper Tommy Setford is set to sign his Arsenal contract today, a player who significantly strengthens the club’s under-21 side.

And it also seems as if Riccardo Calafiori will undergo his Arsenal medical next week – perhaps signed in time to play in the Emirates Cup.

Welcome progress after a slow summer so far, and Arsenal supporters will already be wondering who may follow the pair to the club.

In terms of what Arteta needs, it seems as if a new midfielder, a new forward and a replacement for Aaron Ramsdale will follow.

Ramsdale is looking to leave Arsenal in pursuit of first-team football, and the club will need to find a replacement.

And to that end, Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin is thought to be on Arsenal’s radar.

Real Madrid willing to sell Arsenal target Andriy Lunin over contract dispute

Lunin’s contract reportedly expires in a year’s time and the goalkeeper is reportedly unsettled after being so swiftly replaced by Thibaut Courtois after his injury return.

And after reports of Arsenal sending a sizable offer to sign Lunin, journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the situation on X.

Romano said that there’s a ‘strong possibility’ that Lunin leaves Madrid this summer if he doesn’t agree to sign the contract offer that was presented to him in March.

He shared: “Andriy Lunin’s exit remains strong possibility for this summer, as reported in the recent days.

“Real Madrid are prepared to sell Lunin in case he doesn’t agree to sign new contract offered in March.

“Kepa keeps waiting as he can and wants to return to Real Madrid.”

Of course, Arsenal supporters may be slightly divided on the idea of signing ‘world-class’ Lunin.

That’s not because of doubts surrounding the keeper’s ability, he’s already proved his level for Madrid in the Champions League.

But if Arsenal sign Lunin they will once again have a difficult situation with two keepers vying for one starting role.

Evidently Lunin isn’t content with life as a number two, and he seems unlikely to walk in and displace David Raya, who has earned the trust of Arteta.

Therefore, Arsenal’s interest in Joan Garcia, Espanyol’s number two, seems better-advised, a move that would perhaps lead to a more harmonious situation.
