A week ago, it seemed as if Arsenal had pretty much sealed a move for Serie A and Bologna star Riccardo Calafiori. As of now, the move seems to have hit a bit of a roadblock and it is currently frozen.
La Gazzetta dello Sport today (via TuttoBologna) have detailed as to why the move hasn’t quite gone through yet. It is reported that Bologna are intent on making sure that Basel do not get 50 percent of the sale money from Calafiori’s exit and talks between the two clubs have broken down in that regard and that has been the case for five days.
Bologna actually want to renegotiate the 50 percent sell-on clause with Basel, with Arsenal having offered €40 million plus bonuses in their bid. Bologna believe that they should be recognised for the work they have done to develop the player into what he is now and for having already made it to the Italian national team.
The player is very much interested in the move to Arsenal and he has given his approval to the switch. But the lack of an agreement over the sell-on clause between Bologna and Basel is causing a hold-up and he is having to wait.
