According to a recent report, Arsenal have now agreed a deal to pay £86m for a highly sought after striker on the continent.
The North Londoners are closing in on the first signing of the summer in Riccardo Calafiori and starting to turn their attention to other targets.
One of those being Mikel Merino, who is also of interest to La Liga giants Barcelona and fellow Premier League outfit Aston Villa.
They’re also in the market for a striker and it has just come to light, that an £86m deal to sign one could be agreed upon imminently.
Arsenal agree to pay £86m for Viktor Gyokeres
According to Portuguese outlet Leonino, via The Standard, Arsenal have agreed to pay Sporting £86m for striker Viktor Gyokeres, who has been labelled ‘lethal’ per TEAMtalk.
The Gunners have been long linked with the Sweden international, though, they seemed unwilling to meet his release clause.
But, if the report is to be believed, they’re now prepared to meet Sporting’s asking price and a deal could be wrapped up this week.
It remains to be seen when a formal bid will be submitted but a verbal agreement has been reached.
Viktor Gyokeres statistics
Following his move from Coventry City last summer, Gyokeres has quickly established himself as one of the most prolific strikers on the continent with Sporting.
In his debut season, he netted a staggering 43 times whilst laying on 15 assists, taking his total goal involvements to 58.
If Arsenal are to land his signature, they’d be getting a well-rounded number nine who’s more than capable of playing the playmaker role, too.
In other news, a £105m ‘superstar’ who Arsenal want to sign has just agreed to join PSG.
