Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Stade Rennais star Desire Doue this summer, as per the French outlet L’Equipe.
It initially looked like the Gunners would remain busy in this transfer window to bridge the gap with Manchester City having narrowly missed out on winning the league title to them in the last two consecutive seasons.
However, although the North London club have been linked with numerous players over the last few weeks, they haven’t signed anyone yet this summer.
Mikel Arteta’s side have reportedly been in talks with Bologna to sign Riccardo Calafiori to bolster the backline but it remains to be seen what position they look to bolster next after securing his signature.
It has been reported that Arsenal want to sign a new midfielder and striker while signing a goalkeeper could also become a necessity should Aaron Ramsdale eventually leave the club.
Doue to Arsenal
However, according to the report by L’Equipe, Arsenal could strengthen their attacking midfield position as they are considering signing Doue.
The report further claims that Rennes want a fee of around £51m for their star man so Arteta’s side will have to splash huge money to lure him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
However, the French outlet states that Chelsea are also interested in him and additionally, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on securing his signature.
The 19-year-old has been attracting the attention of big European clubs after showcasing his qualities in the French top-flight last term, scoring four goals and registering as many assists in 17 league starts.
The youngster is a versatile player as he can play in the attacking midfield position as well as in the left-wing role. He is technically sound, has the ability to glide past opposition defenders with ease, can link-up the play, has the qualities of making line-breaking passes and also has the efficiency of finishing off his chances.
Doue is a highly talented player and could be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal if they purchase him. However, it is going to be interesting to see whether the Emirates club eventually opt to sign him by splashing the reported £51m in this transfer window.
