According to a recent report, Arsenal are set to battle for a striker Manchester United want to sign.
Arsenal are expected to complete their first signing of the summer in Riccardo Calafiori, who caught the eye with Italy at Euro 2024.
Once that deal has gone through, sporting director Edu Gaspar is expected to prioritise a move for a striker.
With that said, one has already been identified and they’re set to challenge Manchester United for his signature.
Arsenal want to sign Brian Brobbey
According to The Sun, Arsenal are set to battle Manchester United for the signature of Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.
The 2002-born netted 22 times whilst laying on 12 assists last term and his form earned him a senior debut for the Netherlands national team last September. He’s currently away at Euro 2024 but is yet to make an appearance.
It’s understood that Brobbey prefers a move to the Premier League amidst interest from Serie A so that leaves Arsenal in pole position with United.
Erik ten Hag’s men have almost completed the signing of his compatriot Joshua Zirkzee, so it remains to be seen if they’re still in the market for another attacker.
Brian Brobbey seen as Gabriel Jesus replacement
Arteta views Brobbey as an alternative to Gabriel Jesus, who endured a tough second season in North London, netting just four league goals.
The Ajax forward is under contract until 2027 and is expected to cost somewhere in the region of £30m, which is sure to attract further interest around the continent.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk hailed the rumoured Arsenal target as a ‘great talent’, speaking in 2022.
“I think he’s a great boy. He is a great talent and basically has everything. He is fast, strong and can finish well,” the Dutchman said, via the Liverpool Echo.
