Arsenal loanee returns to training after injury

After a few games out of action through injury, Arsenal loanee Marquinhos has returned to training with Fluminense.

Following a strong start to his loan spell with Fluminense, Marquinhos missed their last four matches with a thigh problem, believed to be a hamstring injury.

The good news is that the winger is now back in training with his loan club, with Saudacoes Tricolores reporting that both Marquinhos and fellow injury-sufferer Marcelo resumed training on Friday.

Marquinhos suffered the injury in rather unfortunate circumstances, as he was filling in for another injured player at the time.

The Arsenal man has been a consistent starter on loan so far, but whether he’s been played at right-wing or right-back has depended on whether starting right-back Samuel Xavier has been fit.

When Xavier is fit, Marquinhos plays on the wing. When he isn’t, Marquinhos has had to fill in as a full-back.

Unfortunately, further questions about Marquinhos’ loan spell have cropped up since his injury, with head coach Fernando Diniz leaving the club.

Diniz was a big believer in Marquinhos’ abilities, and his departure means it’s no longer certain whether the 21-year-old will get regular minutes.

Before his injury, Marquinhos had made 19 appearances in just a little over four months.

Fluminense are next in action on Sunday, July 7th against Fortaleza. Sitting rock bottom of the table, the team desperately need to start picking up some results.
