A forward who has often been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer now wants to leave his club and has set his sights on the Premier League.
Given the insufficiencies of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah, Arsenal are thought to be on the search for a new striker this summer.
Jesus (four) and Nketiah (five) managed to score just nine goals combined in the Premier League last season – a total beaten by Luton Town’s Carlton Morris, who netted 11 times.
It would be a big risk for Arsenal to enter the new season without recruiting a better finisher, even if Kai Havertz is now a reassuring presence in that regard.
And although Jesus was once the star of Mikel Arteta’s project, it perhaps feels slightly unambitious to start the new season with the Brazilian.
Jesus is still an excellent player in his own right, one of the best pressing forwards in world football, but he isn’t the right profile to dovetail with Havertz – he’s no Niclas Fullkrug.
That being said, a move for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen seems very popular among Arsenal fans right now, and Fabrizio Romano has just shared an interesting update in that regard.
