Olympique de Marseille have officially appointed Roberto De Zerbi as the club’s new manager, in what is a significant scoop for the club. Former OM defender William Saliba has had his say on the appointment.
After burning through three managers last season, Marseille were looking to make a quick appointment this summer. Les Phocéens finished the season with interim manager Jean-Louis Gasset at the helm, however, there was no question of him remaining at the club and he even announced his retirement from management upon the conclusion of the Ligue 1 campaign.
After a failure to land Sergio Concieçao, OM turned to De Zerbi and after administrative delays held up the appointment, the Italian was finally confirmed on Saturday. His arrival has met the approval of former OM defender Saliba, who spent one year on loan at the Vélodrome (2021/22 season). He has since said that his time with Les Phocéens represented the “turning point” in his career.
The France international took to social media, commenting on OM’s Instagram account: “That’s awesome,” he said upon the appointment of the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager.
