Arsenal in talks with struggling La Liga giants to sell 24-year-old outcast

Struggling La Liga giants Sevilla are reportedly in talks with Arsenal over a move for 24-year-old out-of-favour midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Vamos Mi Sevilla, Albert Sambi Lokonga is the subject of interest from Sevilla. The struggling La Liga giants are keen on signing a midfielder in the summer transfer window. And they have approached Arsenal for talks to sign the 24-year-old out-of-favour midfielder in the coming weeks.

Albert Sambi Lokonga and his Arsenal woes

Albert Sambi Lokonga has failed to stamp his authority since joining Barcelona from Anderlecht in July 2021. The Belgian midfielder spent his debut season at the Emirates but was a peripheral figure for the North London club, with game time coming at a premium.

Lokonga’s situation did not improve in the first half of the 2022/23 season before the North London club loaned him to Crystal Palace. Arsenal hauled the 24-year-old off for another temporary spell away from the Emirates, with Luton Town snapping him up last summer.

However, Lokonga’s situation did not improve much at Kenilworth Road, as he was in and out of the starting lineup at Luton Town. The Belgian midfielder could not manage even 1,500 minutes of game time across 19 appearances before returning to Arsenal. However, his frustrating spell with Arsenal will likely end in the summer transfer window.

Recent reports have claimed that the Gunners are ready to part ways with Albert Sambi Lokonga in the summer transfer window. While the 24-year-old Arsenal outcast does not have many suitors, the latest report has suggested that he is the subject of interest from Sevilla.

La Liga move on the cards?

Sevilla’s interest in Lokonga is understandable, with Los Nervionenses eager to reinforce the midfield unit as part of a squad overhaul in the summer transfer window. Recent reports have linked the struggling La Liga giants with several midfielders, including Arda Guler. However, their approach failed, with Real Madrid not interested in selling or loaning out the Turk.

The Andalusian heavyweights are in talks with Arsenal over a move for the out-of-favour midfielder. However, the Gunners will not get their wish of selling the 24-year-old Belgian, with Sevilla looking to secure his services on a season-long loan deal.
