AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola simply doesn’t know what is going to happen during the summer transfer window for the Cherries.
The 2024 summer transfer window is now open, five players have already left Dean Court, with Lloyd Kelly joining Newcastle United on a free transfer, whilst Jamal Lowe, Emiliano Marcondes, Ryan Fredericks and Darren Randolph have all departed as free agents.
The Cherries have also secured their first signing of the summer in goalkeeper Alex Paulsen from Australian A-League side Wellington Phoenix.
However, there has already been lots of speculation regarding potential further departures. Most notably top goalscorer Dominic Solanke and left-back Milos Kerkez.
Dominic Solanke has been linked with a possible £65 million move to Arsenal according to the Sunday Express.
According to the Athletic, “Dominic Solanke’s contract at Bournemouth includes a release clause of £65million that can only be activated by certain clubs.”
The report continued…
“The striker’s release clause, though is limited to a select group of clubs — although the identity of those that would qualify is undisclosed. With Bournemouth unlikely to want to lose their leading scorer, it is expected that the stipulation only allows leading teams in the Premier League and European leagues, that are also set to play in European competitions, to trigger the clause.
Meanwhile, Milos Kerkez has been linked with Manchester United having previously been linked with Chelsea.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Iraola was asked if AFC Bournemouth “needs to sell players this summer”, he said…
“I suppose the club will try to do the best deals they can and try to improve the team.
“But when the market is open, we don’t know what is going to happen, because we don’t know the offers we are going to have.
“The market changes every day. You cannot start and think we are going to sign one right-back, one left-back, one number six, no.
“Sometimes something happens that doesn’t affect you at another club, then the other clubs comes to your club and sends you a player and then you have to move and be ready for whatever happens.
“We have to prepare as good as we can and I know the club is doing.
“But there are circumstances money cannot control.
“I will try to give my opinion and try to help, but I am not the one signing players.
“I will try to help the club, but I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
