GAMECOCK SISTERS CLASH: A’ja Wilson Sets New Milestone in Showdown Against Fellow South Carolina Legend

A’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston Shine in Star-Studded WNBA Showdown

Two of South Carolina women’s basketball’s biggest legendsA’ja Wilson and Aliyah Boston, delivered a headline-worthy performance Thursday night as their WNBA teams went head-to-head. The matchup, featuring the Indiana Fever hosting the Las Vegas Aces, may not have been a nail-biter, but it provided an exciting duel between the two former Gamecocks.

The Fever dominated the game with an 81-54 win, but the real entertainment was in the individual battle between Boston and Wilson. Aliyah Boston had a stellar outing, posting 20 points and 7 rebounds on 9-for-13 shooting. Alongside Natasha Howard, she helped neutralize Wilson on the glass, limiting the WNBA MVP frontrunner to just three rebounds.

Despite that, A’ja Wilson once again proved why she’s one of the best players on the planet. She racked up 29 points on 9-of-18 shooting and an impressive 11-of-13 from the free throw line. At one point, Wilson had scored 25 of the Aces’ 36 total points, finishing with nearly half of her team’s entire output in just 26 minutes. In contrast, the rest of the Las Vegas squad combined for 25 points across 174 total minutes.

Unsurprisingly, Wilson made more WNBA history in the process. With her performance, she became just the second player ever to reach 300 points, 100 rebounds, and 50 assists so early in a season — tying the fastest pace to that milestone. She also recently earned yet another Western Conference Player of the Week award, tying Elena Delle Donne for third-most in league history.

The next chapter in the Wilson-Boston rivalry may be written on July 19th, but there’s a twist — they could be on the same team. Both stars were named starters for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game, though team captains Napheesa Collier and Caitlin Clark will draft squads on July 8thAllisha Gray, another South Carolina alum, was also named an All-Star starter.

The All-Star Game will air on ABC and stream on ESPN+ at 8:30 p.m. ET, giving fans another chance to see some of the best Gamecocks in action — whether battling or teaming up on the court
