Patrick Mahomes has been the starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs for seven seasons now. Over those seven seasons, there is no disputing that he has been the greatest to play at that position. Mahomes has the numbers and the championships to prove it.
On Monday, NFL on CBS posted a graphic of Mahomes alongside Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers. The graphic displayed their overall records, passing yards, passing touchdowns, interceptions, passer ratings, MVPs, and Super Bowl wins.
The first statistic is the career record. Mahomes has the most wins, two more than Brady. He also has the fewest losses—one fewer than Brady, and has played in one more game than Brady.
Next, passing yards. Mahomes is the only quarterback of the four to throw for over 30,000 yards. The Chiefs’ signal-caller has 32,068 yards, which is nearly 3,000 more than Peyton Manning had through his first seven seasons.
Third, passing touchdowns. Mahomes has 20 more touchdowns than the next highest, which is Aaron Rodgers. Brady is last on this list and trails Mahomes by 48 touchdowns.
When it comes to interceptions, only Aaron Rodgers has thrown fewer. Rodgers had 56 over 103 games, while Mahomes has thrown 73 in 111 games.
Passer rating is next. Rodgers leads with a rating of 106.6, but Mahomes is close behind at 102.3. Both Brady and Manning are below 94.0 in that category.
Mahomes is tied with Manning and Rodgers with two MVPs during their first seven seasons. Brady had just one during that stretch.
Finally, Mahomes and Brady are tied for the most Super Bowl wins in their first seven seasons as starters, with three each. Rodgers has one, while Manning did not win a Super Bowl during that timeframe.
What’s next for Mahomes? The question now becomes whether he can sustain this level of greatness for as long as Rodgers or even as long as Brady, did during their careers.
