Super Eagles hopeful to end fourteen-year association with Arsenal in the summer

English Premier League title contenders Arsenal will reportedly bid farewell to Super Eagles hopeful Arthur Okonkwo in the summer transfer window.

According to The Mirror UK, Arthur Okonkwo is due to depart north London upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June 2024.

A product of the Hale End Academy, he has been on the books of the Gunners for fourteen years, joining them on schoolboy terms at the age of eight.

The promising goalkeeper is set to depart the Emirates Stadium on a permanent basis without making his senior debut for the Londoners, though he was called up for ten first team games including seven in the Premier League.

Okonkwo is attracting interest from Premier League and Championship clubs as well as Wrexham, where he spent the recently concluded season on loan.

After failing to break into the first team, Okonkwo was loaned out to Crewe Alexandra in the first half of last season and concluded the campaign at Sturm Graz, where he won the first silverware of his senior career.

His stock continued to rise in 2023-2024, contributing significantly to Wrexham’s promotion to League One, and was named the best goalkeeper in the fourth tier after posting fourteen clean sheets in 36 games, all of which he started.

Okonkwo made his competitive debut for Arsenal U18s while still a schoolboy and appeared in the Premier League 2 for the development squad as a 17-year-old.
