Mets Receive Big News on Top Prospect

The New York Mets have suffered through a myriad of injuries to begin the 2025 MLB season. Despite their strong 11-7 record and position in first place of a loaded National League East division, the Mets are at a crossroads. While a big reason for their sputtering offense is injuries, the Mets cannot afford to drop too many games if they wish to keep their division lead.

With recent injuries to multiple starters in the infield and outfield, manager Carlos Mendoza will need to rely on some unlikely heroes to keep the good vibes going in Queens. One of those players may soon get an opportunity to make his MLB debut.

SNY reported on Thursday that Mets’ No. 11 prospect Drew Gilbert was activated by Triple-A Syracuse:

“Drew Gilbert who recently played in six games for Single-A St. Lucie while ramping up following a 2024 season that was severely impacted by a hamstring injury, was activated by Triple-A Syracuse ahead of Thursday’s game after he slashed .375/.444/.708 with two home runs and two doubles over 27 plate appearances for St. Lucie.”

Gilbert peaked as the Mets’ No. 2 overall prospect last season. The 24-year-old has struggled to stay on the field as of late, but when he does, he has been excellent. The former Tennessee Volunteer has a career OPS of .822 in minor league play.

Despite struggling in Triple-A during the 2024 season, he was only able to play about half a season due to injury.

It’s quite possible Gilbert could find himself in Queens with a strong start to his Triple-A season. His 60-grade Arm and 55-grade fielding could give the Mets another option to fill their void in center field.
