On Wednesday afternoon, Kevin Young and the BYU Cougars lost a big name to the transfer portal with junior guard Dallin Hall electing to go portaling.
Hall, a 6-foot-4 guard from Plain City, Utah, entered the transfer portal last offseason with the coaching change in Provo, but elected to return to the team in 2024-25.
In his junior season, Hall posted 6.8 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.2 rebounds per game on 40.2% shooting from the field. He saw action in 32 games for BYU, averaging 24.6 minutes per game.
Coming out of Freemont High School in the Class of 2020, Hall was listed as a three-star prospect by the 247Sports index and the nation’s 444th-ranked player. He also checked in as the 61st-ranked player at his position and the seventh-ranked player in the state of Utah.
The transfer portal officially opened on Monday, March 24, 2025. According to NCAA data, 1,296 FBS basketball players entered the transfer portal in the 2023-24 school year, with 864 (66.7%) undergraduates and 432 (33.3%) graduate transfers. Of the entrants, 70% reported that they enrolled in another school, 6% withdrew their names from the portal, and 23% are still active, transferred to a non-NCAA school, or left their sport.
