Cowboys and Jets Lose Out as Top Receiver Target Quickly Traded

The Dallas Cowboys and the New York Jets are coming off losing seasons and have plenty of needs heading into the 2025 offseason. But one group that appears to be in desperate shape hangs out in the receivers room. And so a quick trade this week sort of whizzed by possible suitors … with analysts suggesting that Dallas and New York missed out. In New York? Outside of Garrett Wilson, and an Allen Lazard who has been given permission to seek a trade, New York doesn’t have a drafted receiver on the roster. That will have to be addressed early and often over the next month. … as vet Davante Adams makes his exit. In Dallas? A similar setup, with CeeDee Lamb entrenched as a superstar but with an aging Brandin Cooks heading to free agency and only questions left otherwise. And so … With the Houston Texans acquiring Chrisitan Kirk from the Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston is essentially looking to replace Stefon Diggs in the aggregate at this point in the offseason. Diggs suffered a season-ending injury early in the year last year and is a free agent. Kirk, meanwhile, was pushed to the side in Jacksonville’s offense after Brian Thomas Jr. took off in his rookie season. With a large cap hit and new regime, the Jaguars simply was looking to shed cap space at this time. In four of his seven seasons, Kirk has recorded over 700 yards receiving. He has been a dependable pass catcher and could certainly help Houston’s offense. The Jags were going to cut the Texas A&M product before salvaging the situation with a trade for a seventh-rounder. He could have also helped New York. He could have helped Dallas. The respective fan bases shouldn’t panic just yet, though. There are plenty of quality pass-catchers the team could look to acquire. But as always, those same fan bases should hope that the team that didn’t get Kirk for a lowly seventh-rounder were aware of his availability and not asleep at the wheel.
